The start of the season for Darmstadt, which last May regained that Bundesliga lost seven years ago at the end of a thrilling three-way sprint for promotion along with Heidenheim and Hamburg, could not have been more traumatic.
After the first three rounds, Torsten Lieberknecht’s men are still out of points – the only ones, so far, not to have scored a single one – and have also conceded a whopping 10 goals, revealing worrying defensive limitations for a team that aspires to maintain its category and not immediately return to the bottom floor. The ‘Gladbach still hasn’t clicked into gear
