Cologne-Borussia Monchengladbach is a match of the 26th day of the Bundesliga and is played on Sunday at 15:30: TV, formations, predictions.
The break for national team commitments could not have come at a better time for Cologne. The 6-1 loss at Signal Iduna Park to Borussia Dortmund in their last match before the two-week break is emblematic of the tricky situation Steffen Baumgart’s men are in as they have just one point from five Bundesliga matches.
A worrying and deficit-ridden roster that has plunged the Billy Goats back into the relegation nightmare. The red zone for now remains far away – the third-last place is six points away – but from here to the end of the tournament there will be no more distractions. The assumptions, in fact, were completely different at the start of the season, with the passionate red and white fans dreaming of another year along the lines of the previous one, which marked Cologne’s return to Europe. In the championship, Baumgart’s team had also started on the right foot, but in the course of the tournament they proved they could not withstand the double commitment, settling in mid-table. Saving what can be saved is the goal in two months’ time, and then we can start planning for the next tournament. Realistically, two or three more victories will be needed to be sure of keeping the category. In the meantime, the coach will demand more from his strikers: Cologne have scored just one goal since their victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on 12 February.
Borussia Monchengladbach have also been winless for more than a month, but they are in a better position than Cologne and are not in danger of being sucked into the relegation fight. For the Fohlen, it is another season without any particular excitement, in which they will most likely fail to reach their European goal. After the resounding success against Bayern Munich, Daniel Farke’s team has not won since, losing badly on the road against Mainz and Leipzig and conceding a total of seven goals.
The Prediction
Köln, heavily defeated in the first leg by Cologne, should at least manage to avoid defeat in a match with at least two goals in total. Only three teams, in fact, have collected fewer away points than Borussia Monchengladbach.
