Bundesliga, it’s all decided in 90 minutes. With a win, Borussia Dortmund would end Bayern Munich’s dictatorship: predictions.
It has even been 11 years since Borussia Dortmund’s last title. Suffice it to say that Jurgen Klopp was still on the bench and the attack was led by a young Lewandowski. Since then the Bundesliga has had no masters other than Bayern Munich, which for ten very long years has left its opponents only crumbs.
The yellow-and-whites are now just one win away from breaking the Bavarian dictatorship: seven days ago they took advantage of the resounding home misstep of Thomas Tuchel’s battleship, which fell by surprise against Leipzig and is now no longer master of its own destiny. Yes, because at the top of the standings now is Borussia Dortmund again, at +2 on Muller and his teammates when there are only ninety minutes left to the end of the championship. The match point Edin Terzic’s team has it in front of their own public: in a Signal Iduna Park full as an egg Borussia will only need to beat a Mainz without any more goals and back from four consecutive defeats to snatch the Meisterschale from the hands of their eternal rivals. A draw, on the other hand, could be detrimental. Indeed, in the event of a Bayern victory, Tuchel and his men would prevail because of their abysmal advantage in goal difference. In any case, we should not see any psychodrama, with Dortmund almost certainly prevailing over Bo Svensson’s red-and-whites and even doing so by a wide margin. Bayern Munich’s likely assertion over Cologne, another team already on vacation, could therefore prove futile: a potentially prolific contest as well at the RheinEnergieStadion.
The predictions on the other matches
In addition to the title, the fight for fourth place will also find its epilogue on the final day of the Bundesliga. It is Union Berlin that is the main candidate to win the last place to play in the next Champions League.
Urs Fischer’s capitols, protagonists of a memorable season, are very close to a historic milestone: until 2019 they had never even been in the top flight, and now, in the event of a victory against an already safe Werder Bremen, they would even qualify for the continent’s top competition. Freiburg have the same points as them – with a slight disadvantage in goal difference – but they must go for a win at home to Eintracht Frankfurt, theoretically still in the running for both sixth and seventh place: a match of at least one goal on each side looms. The other team with hopes of Europe is Wolfsburg, which should have no problem liquidating Hertha Berlin, already arithmetically relegated. Augsburg is only one point away from salvation: the Bavarians have all the cards to avoid defeat at the field of a Borussia Monchengladbach with no more goals. In contrast, penultimate Schalke 04 is in big danger. Which to avert its second relegation in the last three years must beat Leipzig – already certain of third place – at home and hope for defeats by Bochum and Stuttgart, both +1 on 32 points. A positive Bochum result against drained Bayer Leverkusen is not science fiction, while Sebastian Hoeness’s Stuttgart should secure direct salvation by prevailing over his former coach Pellegrino Matarazzo’s Hoffenheim, mathematically safe since last day.
