Bundesliga, the two main title pretenders are on the pitch: tricky away games for Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, both coming back from European commitments.
In the Bundesliga, we are witnessing a close duel between defending champions Bayer Leverkusen and those who would like to immediately retake the throne after dominating for more than a decade, namely Bayern Munich. Currently in front are the Bavarians, who boast the best offense and defense, but the long string of consecutive wins by Xabi Alonso’s men has allowed the Aspirins to stay on the heels of Muller and co., still +4 on their main pursuers after eighteen days in the league.
Bayer Leverkusen does not give up and has won practically all of them since last Nov. 23: the latest success came on Saturday at the BayArena against Borussia Monchengladbach, downed 3-1. This week, however, the Rossoneri ran into their first defeat in nearly three months, surrendering to Atletico Madrid in round seven of the single group stage of the new Champions League. Will the knockout suffered in the Spanish capital also have repercussions in the complicated league match with Leipzig? It is not known but, despite the Roten Bullen’s not particularly positive moment – only one point in the last two days, with the red-and-whites not going beyond a draw with bottom-of-the-table Bochum – Marco Rose’s men remain the only ones to have beaten Leverkusen at home (at the end of August it ended 2-3). Slight preference for the guests but those who want to play it safe can bet on goals, which should not be lacking.
The predictions on the other matches
Reduced from the continental commitment also the leading Bayern Munich, which in the first three days played in 2025 has always won (Borussia Monchengladbach, Hoffenheim and Wolfsburg).
For the Bavarians, despite cup fatigues, another win is on the way against a struggling Freiburg, which has lost three times in the last four days, conceding 8 goals in total in the Frankfurt and Stuttgart away matches. Critical situation, on the other hand, at Borussia Dortmund, which was also defeated by Bologna in the Champions League: the yellow-and-whites in the cup collected their fourth knockout in a row and the club decided to give Nuri Sahin the sack (Niko Kovac his replacement?). The exoneration at any rate could have the desired effect and at Signal Iduna Park Borussia will likely return to winning ways against Werder Bremen. A match with at least one goal each side between Mainz and Stuttgart: slight downturn for the hosts, back on earth after their string of victories, and the Swabians can take advantage of it. We close with the salvation clash between Augsburg and Heidenheim: the Bavarians seem more on the ball thanks to consecutive away successes against Union Berlin and Werder Bremen.
