Bundesliga, the most interesting match is between Bayer Leverkusen and Leipzig, already a possible direct clash: predictions.
All, as every year, in pursuit of the usual Bayern Munich. Last season, the Bavarian “dictatorship,” which has characterized the Bundesliga for more than a decade now, was in danger of being overthrown: Borussia Dortmund gave up at the most beautiful moment, when it would have been enough to beat a Mainz with no more goals on the last day to return to winning the title.
But that of the yellow-and-whites was a sporting suicide destined to remain in history, with Bayern Munich almost unexpectedly finding itself for the 11th consecutive time on the top step of the podium after hopes seemed to have faded for good a week earlier. Behind Thomas Tuchel’s team and Borussia Dortmund, finished the ever-ambitious Leipzig, who last Saturday slapped the defending champions in the face, overwhelming them 3-0 at the Allianz Arena in the match that awarded the German Super Cup. Despite several excellent disposals (Nkunku, Szoboszlai and Gvardiol) Marco Rose’s team does not give the impression of being less competitive than last season, quite the contrary.
The Roten Bullen in the first round of the championship will come to the BayArena on the wings of enthusiasm, but they will have to watch out for Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen, who already appeared on the ball in the last friendlies: goals should not be missed. Complicated trip also for Vincenzo Grifo’s Freiburg, which will be on the scene in Sinsheim: Hoffenheim has finally found a pure nine (Weghorst) and aims to archive the last season, in which they found themselves fighting not to relegate.
The predictions on the other matches
Borussia Monchengladbach, another team called upon to turn over a new leaf after an uninspiring season, has particularly shined in friendlies.
The Fohlen, since this year led by former Young Boys and Leverkusen coach Gerardo Seoane, have won eight of the tests played – including a resounding 5-1 win against Stuttgart – and a week ago they smashed seven goals off Bersenbruk in the German Cup. They will debut at home to hostile Augsburg, which as usual is aiming for a quiet salvation: there is a good chance Gladbach will at least avoid defeat. Stuttgart, which was saved only after the double promotion-relegation playoff against Hamburg, is also hungry for redemption: the home match against Bochum, a formation that is usually less scary away, is within reach. Wolfsburg should also debut with a win: the debuting green-and-whites host newly promoted Heidenheim, among the leading relegation candidates.
