Bundesliga, predictions Day 9: matches Saturday 3:30 p.m.

by Thorsten

Bundesliga, Bayern Munich host surprising fourth-ranked Union Berlin at Allianz Arena. Match within reach for Eintracht Frankfurt.

After eight Bundesliga rounds only Leipzig is managing to keep up with Bayern Munich. There are 20 points won by the Bavarians, who together with the Roten Bullen look down on everyone (they are the only two teams still unbeaten in the league). Vincent Kompany’s team has won their last two matches 4-0 and 5-0, against Stuttgart and Bochum respectively, scoring 9 goals in total.

No one, to date, can boast the jaw-dropping offensive numbers of Muller and his teammates, who have arrived at 29 goals (7 those conceded, third best defense in the tournament). There was no shortage, however, of half-steps, with Bayern Munich being stopped on a draw by both Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen.

During the week, the men led by the Belgian coach also made it through the German Cup round with ease, rifling a clear 4-0 win over Mainz. Union Berlin, on stage Saturday afternoon at the Allianz Arena, should not pose a problem either. The Capitols, however, should not be underestimated, as they are having a great season so far, above expectations.

This is evidenced by their momentary fourth place in the standings (15 points) ahead of far better-ranked teams such as Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund. In our opinion, Union, while having little chance of taking points away from Bavaria, has a good chance of making a decent impression in a match of at least three goals total. Hard to avoid the goleada instead is Bochum, the tail-end with only one point and not even one win. For the Blauen we foresee a complicated afternoon at home to Eintracht Frankfurt, eager for redemption after scraping together only two points in their last three Bundesliga matches.

The predictions on the other matches

Not bursting with health either is newly-promoted Kiel, second-to-last on 2 points. Still winless, Marcel Rapp’s men have to deal with the worst defense in the league (23 goals conceded). They will try to take advantage of Heidenheim, which despite winning both Conference League challenges, is struggling more at home (one point in the last two days and elimination from the German Cup).

The cup success with Nürnberg may be the jolt Hoffenheim, which is too discontinuous in the league and therefore fourth-to-last on 8 points, needed. The one with St. Pauli is, in fact, a salvation clash: there should be no shortage of goals on either side. Same for Wolfsburg-Augsburg, both located in the right side of the standings: we assume a balanced match at the Volkswagen Arena.
