Borussia Monchengladbach-Mainz, Bundesliga: likely formations,

by Michael

Borussia Monchengladbach-Mainz is a match for the seventh day of the Bundesliga and is played on Friday at 20:30: TV, formations, predictions.

After three defeats and two draws and a paltry haul of just two points last week, Borussia Monchengladbach were able to celebrate their first win in this year’s Bundesliga.

The Fohlen went on to win 3-1 at home to Bochum, a field notoriously littered with pitfalls, and filed the file in the first half, which ended 3-0 to Gerardo Seoane’s men: Neuhaus opened the scoring, then French striker Plea took the lead, who in addition to assisting his team-mate also scored a brace; Losilla’s goal in the second half was of no consequence. The Swiss coach can smile again after two matches in which Lady Luck seemed to have turned her back on Borussia Monchengladbach, who against Darmstadt and Leipzig (3-3 and 0-1) would have deserved something more. Weigl and his team-mates had not been unlucky even against Bayern Munich, who, if it had not been for Tel’s goal three minutes from the end, would have once again postponed the appointment with victory at Borussia Park, a ‘bewitched’ stadium for the Bavarians.

In the seventh day’s advance, Gladbach have the opportunity to climb further up the standings in the event of a success against Mainz, the bottom of the table along with Cologne.

Bo Svensson’s team, for a few seasons now a fine and interesting reality in the German top league, is unrecognisable. And the calendar excuse is valid up to a point. The red and whites have barely won a point in seven matches, the result of the draw with Eintracht Frankfurt. Then only and exclusively draws, with the exception of the match against Augsburg, which ended 2-1 for the Bavarians. On Saturday, top-ranked Bayer Leverkusen made havoc (0-3) on Mainz’s defence, the third most beaten in the Bundesliga (17 goals in seven games) after Bochum and Darmstadt.

The Prediction

Mainz have not lost to Borussia Monchengladbach for five matches: the Fohlen’s last success dates back to October 2020. A trend that, in light of recent results, could be reversed, with the hosts most likely to avoid defeat. Two teams with somewhat ‘ballerine’ defences face each other, which is why we expect a good number of goals overall.
