Borussia Monchengladbach-Leipzig, Bundesliga: line-ups, predictions

by Thorsten

Borussia Monchengladbach-Leipzig is a match valid for the fifth day of the Bundesliga and is played on Saturday at 15:30: TV, formations, predictions.

Leipzig’s Champions League adventure has started on the right foot. On Tuesday, Marco Rose’s men confirmed their excellent form by winning 3-1 at Young Boys, thus heading them into the knockout phase.

Slovenian starlet Sesko shone once again: for the coach he is not yet a starter, but the former Salzburg man will soon become one if he continues at this pace. Substituted for Poulsen, with one of his goals – his third of the season – he sealed the result, proving that he has the qualities to impose himself both in the Bundesliga and internationally. But in this Leipzig team it is not only him who is showing off: the other talent that Rose is helping to blossom is that of Dutchman Xavi Simons, who has arrived on loan from Psg. The Surinamese-born player is consistently among the best on the pitch and has so far netted three goals and four assists. They (and not only them) are the new ‘gold’ of the Roten Bullen, always competitive despite the abundant disposals in the summer. Leipzig are also doing well in the league: after losing in the opener to Leverkusen, they have racked up three wins in a row (Stuttgart, Union Berlin and Augsburg), never scoring less than three goals.

Gladbach’s defence is treading water

A run that could continue at home to Borussia Monchengladbach – Rose’s former team – who are still winless and have only picked up two points.

The Fohlen last Sunday risked their third consecutive defeat against the newly-promoted Darmstadt: down by three goals after only 30 minutes of play, they managed to equalize in the second half – they also missed a penalty kick – facilitated by Maglica’s expulsion that left the hosts with 10 men. The only thing that could be saved was the reaction, but the defence continued to hold water: with 12 goals conceded in four matches, Gladbach’s defence is currently the second worst after Darmstadt’s.

The Prediction

For Marco Rose, a traumatic return to what has been his stadium for three seasons is not on the cards: an inspired Leipzig side should be able to take away the three points against Borussia Monchengladbach, who have so far picked up just two points in four matches. We also expect a good number of goals, at least three in total.
