Bochum-Stuttgart, Bundesliga: odds, predictions

by Lea

Borussia Monchengladbach-Wolfsburg is a Bundesliga Week 27 match and is played on Sunday at 15:30: TV, formations, predictions.

On paper it would be a challenge between the tenth and ninth in the current standings, but Borussia Monchengladbach and Wolfsburg, on balance, have completely different prospects.

Yes, because there are seven points separating the two teams at the moment: while Borussia have resigned themselves to an anonymous championship, in which they have once again failed to return to Europe, Wolfsburg are in the running for one of the top seven places. The green-and-whites, led by former Bayern Munich coach Niko Kovac, have been on a five-day winning streak, in which they have collected three draws and two victories. There was a big scare last Saturday in the home match against Augsburg, which ended 2-2: a match that Wolfsburg only managed to win back in the final minutes, cancelling out the Bavarians’ double advantage, which they were by then sure had made the breakthrough. Felix Nmecha’s goal in the 96th minute enabled Kovac and his men to avoid a bloody defeat.

Borussia’s lack of consistency

Hanging on to the European train, however, will not be easy, considering that the competition in front is fierce and there are several teams within a few points.

In the Borussia Park arena Wolfsburg will be looking to pick up yet another positive away result: away from home, in fact, the green-and-whites have only lost once in their last nine Bundesliga matches, boast the best defensive record (just twelve goals conceded) and have not conceded a goal in three rounds. Since February, however, Borussia Monchengladbach have only been able to beat Bayern Munich and have slipped to -9 from sixth place. Among the main reasons for this less-than-exciting performance are the inconsistency in results and the points lost from advantageous situations: only Augsburg did worse than Gladbach in this particular statistic.

The Prediction

While it is true that Wolfsburg are on a roll on the road, one cannot underestimate the excellent home performance of Borussia Monchengladbach, who have taken some illustrious scalps in front of their home crowd. They should manage to avoid defeat with the green-and-whites as well, in a match with at least one goal each. A draw cannot be ruled out.
