Revealing it all was Sport Integrity Team consultant Francesco Baranca in a lengthy interview with Agimeg.it. Who first talked about three matches rigged in pre-season friendlies in some Northern and Eastern European leagues. And then he went into detail about one.
“One case also concerns a major Croatian team, Hajduk Split, which has just acquired Ivan Perisic, an internationally renowned player, who suffered blatant and incomprehensible refereeing wrongs in the friendly match against Slask. Obviously the clubs have no responsibility and are the main victims of this system.” In this case we are talking about the referee involved in this system, and obviously there is nothing to blame the clubs that faced each other. But this risk of match fixing obviously is there, and everyone is trying to figure out how to eradicate it. Maybe Baranca himself is right when he says that maybe it would be appropriate not to quote these kinds of matches and these kinds of events.
