Berrettini away from Sinner: the misunderstanding that hides the embrace

by Mark

Berrettini and Sinner, an endless soap opera: from photo to video via social media uproar.

Attachment to the jersey, passion, heart. He puts all this and even something more, Matteo Berrettini, every time he plays for the national team. A perfect team man capable of making a difference, to the point that the president of the Italian Tennis Federation, in recent days, had let slip some very important words about it.

Angelo Binaghi, as you may recall, firmly maintained that in his opinion the Roman could be the ideal coach of the Azzurri. There is not, as was then insinuated, a desire to do away with Filippo Volandri. It had been a simple consideration for its own sake, which had been enough, however, for someone to mount a real case around it. Nothing of the sort, really. The sky is blue over Malaga and things are going swimmingly in the national team. Especially now that the Capitoline hammer has joined his teammates to accompany them in this hunt for the Davis Cup.

The Roman, as known, will not play. He will simply support his colleagues from the bench, a role that goes well with his personality and temperament. It’s just a pity that upon his arrival in Malaga, a photo made the people of social media suspicious and caused a controversy to erupt, once again, with all the trappings.

Berrettini and Sinner, video-truth in Malaga: enough is enough

The incriminating photo was taken the moment Matteo reached the court where all the other Azzurri were already. It depicts Berrettini intent on greeting his teammates, while Sinner can be seen on the sidelines, sitting with his arms folded at the edge of the court and looking in a completely different direction.

Seeing it this way, many thought that the South Tyrolean did not even bother to get up to greet his Roman “friend.” Which reinforced, there and then, the notion that the two boys could not stand each other, least of all now that Jannik has definitely exploded and Matteo, on the other hand, is going through the worst time of his career. Conjectures that leave time to be found, then, since none of it is all true.

The photo is true, while the rest is a hoax. A video released by Federtennis proved to the misguided that the two boys had, in fact, greeted each other before. Berrettini arrived in a car and as soon as he got out to greet him were Lorenzo Sonego, his great friend, and Sinner, who shook his hand and then hugged him, asking, “Everything okay?” Yet more proof that it is not true that there is bad blood between the two. That it is just that bad habit of seeing the rot where there is none…
