BAYERN MUNICH – WERDER BREMA | Tuesday 8.30pm
At the top of the Bundesliga standings, as of this day, there is once again Bayern Munich, the battleship that has dominated the German top league for ten years now. Many wondered when this would happen. In fact, it was quite unlikely that Union Berlin would be able to stay in front for so long, although Urs Fischer’s capitols have had a science fiction first half for what was expected. Julian Nagelsmann’s men took advantage of Union’s slip-up, overwhelmed 5-0 by Bayer Leverkusen, to regain the top spot. The 2-3 victory at the Olympiastadion against the other Berlin side, Hertha, was decisive in overtaking them. It was a match that seemed to be safe after the first half, thanks to Musiala’s goal and two goals from a wild Choupo-Moting. But Schwarz’s white-blacks scored two goals in just five minutes, giving the reigning champions a second half of pure passion.
Bayern have now won eight consecutive matches in all competitions, with the Bavarians unbeaten for eleven games. The turning point seems to have been Mané’s move to the left flank and the ‘promotion’ of the Cameroonian centre-forward into the starting eleven, who is going go with almost ‘Lewandowskian’ averages. The question now is who will be able to stop the run of Neuer and his teammates. Werder Bremen, the newly promoted team that is doing great and comes to the Allianz Arena on the back of a double victory against Hertha Berlin and Schalke 04, will try. Six points that propel Ole Werner’s team into seventh place. If the Bundesliga ended now it is highly likely that the green-and-whites would be in Europe.
The Prediction
Werder Bremen are proving to be a good team, probably capable of entering the fight for Europe, but to think of stopping this Bayern team is almost a utopia. The absence of the green-and-white scorer Fullkrug, on the other hand, reduces the already residual chances of Werner’s men to take away at least a point from Bavaria. Bayern favourites in a match of at least three goals in total
