Alcaraz-Medvedev is a match valid for the group stage of the Atp Finals 2023: schedule, news, predictions, live TV and streaming.
Fourth and final day of round robin at the Atp Finals 2023. The name of Jannik Sinner’s opponent in tomorrow’s semifinals could emerge from the first of two challenges scheduled today. The South Tyrolean, who passed as first within the Green group (ahead of Djokovic) will meet on his way to the final dream the runner-up in the Red group, currently led by Daniil Medvedev, already with two victories.
The Russian, who particularly appreciates the surface of Turin’s Pala Alpitour, is already certain to play the semifinals but the position remains to be determined: will he go through as first or second? In case of success against world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz there would be no doubt: Medvedev would finish ahead of everyone in the rankings, finding himself Djokovic in the semifinals. The Spaniard, on the other hand, cannot make many calculations: defeated in the opener by Alexander Zverev, with a win he would detach the pass to the knockout stage and the position will be determined by the number of sets won. If he folds in two partials the Muscovite would fly to the top, overtaking Medvedev himself, while if he comes out on top in three sets it will be necessary to await the outcome of the evening match between the German and Andrey Rublev, who has already been eliminated.
Parity in the previous four
The feeling, however, is that they both want to win: this is a clash between two of the top 3 in the world and there are also points and especially a lot of money at stake.
Medvedev has so far tamed Rublev and Zverev without any trouble, not conceding a single set to them. Alcaraz, on the other hand, has had it easy only in the second match with Rublev, taking advantage of the high number of freebies of the Russian, who as usual got overwhelmed by nervousness. This is the fifth head-to-head match between the Muscovite and the Murcian: the precedents played so far tell of two victories on each side. Last March, on the Indian Wells concrete, Alcaraz won in two sets, with Medvedev taking revenge at the last US Open, eliminating the Spaniard and preventing him from meeting Djokovic in the final.
The prediction
In the match against Rublev Alcaraz gave important signs, as if he has settled in quickly on a very fast surface like the Turin one (criticized after the first match). Can it be enough to unhinge the certainties of a specialist like Medvedev? In our opinion, the Spaniard has an imposing mountain to climb in front of him and the prediction is much more open than the bookmakers’ odds, which see the El Palmar native ahead. Both will most likely win at least one set.
