Alcaraz is lame, what a chance for Sinner

by Michael

Sinner, on the eve of his exhibition match with Alcaraz, it turns out that the Spaniard is lame: Jannik starts favored.

The numbers, statistics and history right now are unquestionably on Carlos Alcaraz’s side. The phenomenon from Murcia has already collected a beauty of 12 Atp trophies, two of which, a not insignificant detail, he received for winning 2 Slams: the Us Open in 2022 and Wimbledon in 2023.

Not bad for a tennis player who still has a great many decades of play ahead of her and is only 20 years old. Needless to get around it too much, then: at the moment, he has done more than Jannik Sinner. This does not mean, however, that the native of Innichen cannot catch up, equal or, even, surpass him. In fact, let’s not forget that in the face-to-face matches between the two giants of the new generation, the Italian is ahead. He has won 4 of their 7 matches so far, which is why he really has nothing to envy Juan Carlos Ferrero’s protégé.

There are good reasons, in light of these considerations, to think that their rivalry could ignite even more, during this highly anticipated 2024. Sinner is as hungry as ever and Alcaraz will have to be very careful of him, now that he is dangerously close to the top 3 and will do everything he can not only to get as close to the top as possible, but also to take out as many competitors as possible.

Sinner, this could make the difference: unlucky Alcaraz

The good news – for Sinnerists, at least – is that in the coming season Sinner will start with a higher gear than his rival and friend Carlos. Who, as we have found out in the last few hours, is lame.

Not literally, but figuratively. The world No. 2, who as long as Novak Djokovic allowed him to, enjoyed the joy of being at the top of tennis Olympus, will have to face the tough Australian trip without the most important person in his life: coach Juan Carlos Ferrero. Alcaraz’s mentor underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, reasoning that he will have to rest for a while. At least until next March, as reported by Spanish newspaper Marca, the first to drop this bombshell.

Carlitos will not leave alone, however. Alongside him will be Pablo Carreño Busta’s current coach, Samuel Lopez, who works at Ferrero’s academy and is, therefore, part of Alcaraz’s “circle.” Nevertheless, Juan Carlos’ absence on the bench could weigh like a boulder on the performance of the 20-year-old from Murcia, who is attached to him to the point of considering him a second father. May it make it easier, all this, for Sinner?
