Fiorentina-Como prediction: the Viola are still without a win

by Mike

Stefano Pioli’s Fiorentina are still a work in progress, as was clearly seen last Saturday in their match against Napoli, which was dominated throughout by the Italian champions. For around 80 minutes, Antonio Conte’s team did what they wanted at the Franchi. The Viola only woke up in the last 10 minutes, when it was too late, managing to reduce the deficit thanks to a goal from captain Ranieri (1-3).

It was a lackluster performance from the Gigliati, which was somewhat similar to their previous ones: against Cagliari and Torino, Fiorentina had only managed to earn two points without shining. Their only victories this season remain those in the Conference League against the modest Ukrainian side Polissya: this is not enough, especially after an ambitious transfer market, in which Rocco Commisso’s club spent over €90 million to strengthen the squad and try to achieve a more important goal than the “usual” Conference.

It is up to Pioli to find the key to getting this Viola side going, which is still too cumbersome, inconsistent (Kean, last year’s top scorer, is stuck on zero), and very fragile in the crucial area of the pitch: the midfield, in fact, is the department suffering the most. Meanwhile, the schedule offers no respite: Cesc Fabregas’ Como, who spent lavishly in the summer, are coming to Florence this round. However, the Larians are coming off a defeat (1-0 against Bologna) and a draw: on the last matchday, they were caught up by Genoa (1-1) in injury time, nullifying yet another feat by Nico Paz. Their only victory remains their debut against Lazio (2-0).

Fiorentina-Como: the latest news on the lineups

Kean has recovered from his fever and, as Pioli reiterated in his press conference, will be available for the match. Either Gudmundsson or Fazzini will support the former Juve player: the latter, who was the best against Napoli, seems to have the edge, considering that the Icelander is not yet 100%. Nicolussi Caviglia will start, with Fagioli returning to the midfield and no longer playing as playmaker.
On the other side, Fabregas has to deal with the absence of the suspended Ramon in defense: either Goldaniga or Diego Carlos will replace him. Diao and van der Brempt remain in the infirmary.

The prediction

We can expect a reaction from Fiorentina, who have been too bad to be true so far: another misstep would increase the discontent at the Viola, given that Pioli’s team will have to face some delicate head-to-head matches in the coming days, in addition to the derby with Pisa. We predict at least one goal per side in the match against Como, who, as usual, will play openly.
