Sunday afternoon will be a real test for Union Berlin, who resoundingly, and no doubt to be proven wrong, lead the Bundesliga standings alone after nine days. With a three-point lead over Freiburg who, just as sensationally, is second in the standings. In short, the Union will try to stretch their lead over Borussia Dortmund, who are currently fourth and who did not go beyond a draw at home against Sevilla in the Champions League this week. Yes, Union also played in Europe against Malmo – winning – and so commitments in between could create physical difficulties for both.
It has to be said, though, that Berlin have won four of their last five matches. In contrast to Dortmund, who only on two occasions, if you look at this time span, have managed to score full points. Of course, last weekend the yellow-and-whites drew against Bayern Munich thanks to Modeste’s goal in the last second of the match, but in the last league away match they lost to Cologne. In a nutshell, the game is all but sealed.

In a challenge of at least one goal per team – this is almost guaranteed – a draw between Union Berlin and Borussia seems likely. A point that would in any case allow the home team to remain at the top of the German league. And that is certainly no small thing.
