Brazil vs. Chile prediction: Ancelotti continues to experiment

by Thorsten

Brazil has already qualified, while Chile no longer has any chance of reaching the next World Cup. There is little at stake in the match at the legendary Maracanã, although this game, along with the next one against Bolivia, will allow Carlo Ancelotti, who has been the Seleçao coach since last spring, to continue shaping the team ahead of the international tournament scheduled for the summer of 2026: Brazil’s last victory dates back to 2002. Twenty-three years is an unacceptable amount of time for a team that has lifted the World Cup five times in its history.

Since one of the most successful coaches of all time took over the reins of Brazil after leaving Real Madrid, there has been a draw (0-0 in Ecuador) and a victory, against Paraguay (1-0, with Vinicius scoring the decisive goal). Nothing extraordinary, but no one expected Ancelotti to fix everything in such a short time. There is a lot of work to be done, and in 10 months, the former Blancos coach will try to restore confidence to a very talented group that has seemed disjointed and lacking a clear identity in recent tournaments.

As for Chile, the new era unofficially began in the summer with Nicolas Cordova at the helm—for now on an interim basis—of a team that has only managed to collect 10 points in 16 games in this qualifying round and is currently languishing in last place. La Roja has yet to win in 2025 and, even more worryingly, has not scored a single goal. A generational change is urgently needed and can no longer be postponed. Cordova has begun the work, leaving veterans such as Sanchez and Vidal at home. On the other hand, Ancelotti has left Neymar, Militao, and Rodrygo at home, but he will also have to do without the suspended Vinicius Jr. We will probably see a lot of experimentation: against Chile, there will be opportunities for Joao Pedro and Richarlison.
