Inter vs. Udinese prediction: identical results over the last seven years

by Thorsten

Without taking into account their adventure in the United States at the Club World Cup, we could say that Inter have started the season as they finished the previous one. However, this time the Nerazzurri did not suffer the infamous 5-0 defeat they did in the disastrous Champions League final against PSG: on the first day of the league, Cristian Chivu’s men scored five goals against Torino (without conceding any) on a night when, unlike in Munich, everything went their way.
The Romanian coach’s debut on the Inter bench at San Siro was therefore a resounding success: the European runners-up easily disposed of the Granata, proving that they are still the team to beat alongside Italian champions Napoli. The goals came from the two strikers, Lautaro Martinez and Thuram (a brace for the Frenchman, who immediately rediscovered his rapport with the Argentine after the controversy of the summer), Bastoni, and one of the new signings, former Parma player Bonny, who scored after coming on as a substitute. In short, Inter were dominant, maintaining more or less the same characteristics as when Simone Inzaghi was in charge, albeit with some significant changes. They are trying to find new energy from players such as Sucic, who was among the best on the pitch against Torino.

Now they need confirmation against Udinese, again at San Siro: the Friulians drew their home opener with Verona (1-1), allowing the Scaligeri to catch up with them fifteen minutes from the end. Kosta Runjaic’s team did not shine in attack, which is understandable given that they lost their two starting strikers, Lucca and Thauvin, in the summer. For this reason, the German coach is waiting for news from the transfer market.

Inter vs. Udinese: the latest news on the lineups

Chivu welcomes back Calhanoglu and Pio Esposito, who were suspended a week ago: the Turkish player is expected to start, while the young prospect—who has just been called up to the national team by coach Gattuso—will start on the bench. Sucic is trusted in midfield: the Croatian is favored over Mkhitaryan. In defense, Pavard is threatened by Bisseck.

Runjaic’s doubts concern the defense and the left flank: Palma and Bertola are vying for a spot at the back, while on the left it’s the usual duel between Kamara and Zemura. The attacking duo will once again be Bravo and Davis.

The prediction

We will once again see Inter playing with the same front-wheel drive as against Torino: few chances for Udinese, who last won at San Siro in 2017 (since then, only defeats, often heavy ones, for the Bianconeri). There should be at least three goals in total.

Probable line-ups for Inter-Udinese

INTER (3-5-2): Sommer; Pavard, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Sucic, Dimarco; Lautaro Martínez, Thuram.
UDINESE (3-5-2): Sava; Palma, Kristensen, Solet; Ehizibue, Atta, Karlstrom, Lovric, Kamara; Iker Bravo, Davis.

Will Udinese manage to score at least one goal?

Yes (51%, 41 Votes)
No (49%, 39 Votes)
Total Voters: 80

POSSIBLE RESULT: 3-1
