Wycombe-Stockport prediction: negative balance and mandatory result

by Mike

After contrasting results on the first day of League One 2025-26, Wycombe Wanderers and Stockport County face each other on Saturday afternoon at Adams Park. Mike Dodds’ side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Bradford City in their first game in the third tier, while the visitors beat Bolton Wanderers in front of their home crowd.
Stockport’s victory over Bolton was typical Dave Challinor: they were clinical, never looked like they could lose, even if they perhaps didn’t deserve to win – that’s what top teams do. This challenge will probably be an easier task. Perhaps it is just a matter of context, but Wycombe manager Mike Dodds may have tried to change the team’s style of play over the summer. At Valley Parade, Wycombe had 69% possession and completed 394 passes – a significant increase on last season – although it must be said that Bradford were already 2-0 up.

In the latter part of last season, Dodds’ side played boring, static football. His team failed to score in nine of the 19 league games under his leadership, averaging less than a goal per game, and he even managed to shut down Richard Kone, who had been scoring in bunches before his arrival.

Change of style or not, Wycombe’s performance against the top six under Dodds has been poor. In seven games (including the playoff semifinals), they have never won, scoring just one goal and conceding 11. Stockport’s victory is priced at 2.65 on Goldbet.
