Unbelievable but true: there is a chance, not even that remote, that PSG could be crowned French champions at the end of this weekend. If Luis Enrique’s team—currently 19 points ahead of second place—beats Saint-Étienne and, at the same time, Marseille loses in Reims and the derby between Monaco and Nice ends in a draw, then the French capital could start celebrating yet another title, the fourth in a row and the 13th in the club’s history (no other team has won so many in France).
But even if this series of events does not occur, the math will most likely be settled the following weekend. The championship victory has never been in doubt this year, nor has the dominance of PSG, which continues to have no rivals at home even after changing its “policy,” choosing to no longer be a hodgepodge of stars or champions in decline but rather creating an interesting technical project based on a precise identity and philosophy of play (and above all on young talent). Luis Enrique, however, will try to wrap things up as soon as possible to focus on the goal that PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi has been pursuing for more than a decade: the Champions League. After eliminating Liverpool, the Parisians have become one of the potential outsiders (the first leg of the quarter-finals against Aston Villa is scheduled for April 9).
PSG still unbeaten in Ligue 1
Before the break, PSG easily defeated Marseille (3-1) at the Parc des Princes, remaining unbeaten in Ligue 1 (21 wins and 5 draws).
Saint-Etienne, on the other hand, is in serious danger of relegation, less than a year after promotion. They have not won since January 4: in the eight games since then, Les Verts have picked up only four points, slipping to second-last place, – from safety. Two weeks ago, it looked like the drought was about to end, but the match against bottom-of-the-table Montpellier was suspended midway through the second half due to smoke bombs thrown by fans, with Eirik Horneland’s men leading 2-0.

The prediction
In the first leg last January, Saint-Etienne escaped a rout only thanks to numerous mistakes in front of goal by PSG’s attackers, who won “only” 2-1 despite an Expected Goals rating of 4.07. This time, we expect a more convincing victory for the Parisians, who are ready to lay waste to the second-worst defense in the league: at least four goals in total.
