Atalanta vs. Inter prediction: Gasp against his nemesis: shocking overall score

by Sabrina

In what is now shaping up to be a three-way race for the Scudetto, Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta cannot be underestimated. In mid-March, they are only three points behind leaders Inter and just one point behind second-placed Napoli. In short, everyone is happily in the mix, with the Bergamo and Naples sides able to focus solely on the league, a detail that is far from trivial compared to the reigning Italian champions, who are still involved in the Champions League and Coppa Italia.

The direct clash at the Gewiss Stadium will attempt to unravel the issue, the last succulent course of a Serie A round that closes a long tour de force – there has been no let-up since November – before going into hibernation for two weeks to make way for the national teams. Atalanta continues to shine away from home and last Sunday humiliated Juventus at home, inflicting their heaviest defeat since the 1960s, a 4-0 result that will remain indelible in the memories of the Dea fans. It was total domination by Gasperini’s team, but if they want to keep dreaming of the Scudetto, they will have to get back to winning ways in front of their own fans: they haven’t won at home in the league since last December (3-2 against Empoli).

Inter, on the other hand, recorded their third consecutive victory this week, easily beating Feyenoord (2-1) in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 and confirming the superiority they had already shown in the first leg (0-2). Simone Inzaghi is hoping to see this brilliance again as soon as possible at home: in the last round, Inter struggled to beat bottom-of-the-table Monza (3-2), canceling out a two-goal lead with goals from Arnautovic, Calhanoglu, and an own goal from Kyriakopoulos.

Atalanta-Inter: the latest news on the line-ups

Atalanta’s injury list is getting longer: Posch and Cuadrado are out and will not be available for the match against Inter. In addition to them, Gasperini will not be able to count on Kossounou, Scamacca, Scalvini, and Sulemana. Pasalic and De Ketelaere are vying for a spot in attack, with the Belgian favored.

Inzaghi will be without the injured Zielinski, Dimarco, Zalewski, and de Vrij and is unsure whether to field Pavard or Bisseck in defense. It will be a short bench in Bergamo, with the regular starters called upon to work overtime.

Prediction

Inter is now a real taboo for Gasperini, who has not beaten his former team since 2018 and has always been defeated in the last five previous matches, with a shocking overall score of 16-5 for the Nerazzurri from Milan. In Bergamo, however, the matches are usually more balanced: Inter have won the last two, but if we consider the last 15, the record is four wins apiece and seven draws. The feeling is that Inzaghi, despite his men being less fresh due to their Champions League commitments, knows how to neutralize Dea, who, among other things, struggle much more at home. In any case, we expect a balanced match, in which it is very likely that both teams will score. A draw cannot be ruled out.

Probable line-ups for Atalanta-Inter

ATALANTA (3-4-3): Carnesecchi; Djimsiti, Hien, Kolasinac; Bellanova, de Roon, Ederson, Zappacosta; De Ketelaere, Retegui, Lookman.
INTER (3-5-2): Sommer; Pavard, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Carlos Augusto; Lautaro Martinez, Thuram.
