Barcelona vs. Celta Vigo prediction: it won’t be a walk in the park

by Mike

Last Tuesday, Barcelona suffered their first defeat in all competitions in four months. However, the defeat against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League was a painless knockout: the Blaugrana, clearly too relaxed after their 4-0 win in the first leg, were unable to keep the pride of the Black and Yellows at bay, who were eager to redeem themselves after the debacle at Montjuic and exit the Champions League with their heads held high. In the end, the 3-1 result at Signal Iduna Park still sends Hansi Flick’s team through to the semi-finals. Barcelona had not been among the top four in Europe since 2019 (without Messi, it had never happened).

Now the Blaugrana can return to focusing on the league, and they will do so knowing that they are still in contention on all three fronts. In La Liga, with seven games to go, Barcelona have a significant lead over Real Madrid (+4), but the gap between the leaders and Los Blancos is not yet big enough to allow Araujo and his teammates to rest easy, especially with an opponent of the caliber of Carlo Ancelotti’s team around.

In 2025, however, Barça has been flawless at home. In addition to securing a place in the Copa del Rey final – where they will face Real Madrid in Seville – they have won almost every game. In La Liga, for example, the only teams to stop the Blaugrana have been Getafe and Betis.

Flick and his men will also have the advantage of playing the next two games at home. The first is against Celta Vigo, who saw their long unbeaten run (eight games) come to an end on Saturday, losing 2-0 in front of their own fans to Espanyol. This setback prevented them from closing the gap on Betis and allowed Mallorca to catch up with the Galicians in seventh place, on 43 points. However, the European dream remains intact for Claudio Giraldez’s side, who already managed to snatch a point against Barcelona in November, holding them to a 2-2 draw at Balaidos.

Prediction

We don’t expect any big surprises in this match, which should be won by Barcelona. However, Celta are tough opponents and, as in the first leg, could break through the Blaugrana defense at least once in a game with more than two goals in total.

Probable line-ups for Barcelona-Celta Vigo

BARCELONA (4-3-3): Szczesny; Koundé, Cubarsì, Inigo Martinez, Martin; Fermin Lopez, de Jong, Pedri; Yamal, Lewandowski, Raphinha.
CELTA VIGO (3-4-3): Guaita; Javi Rodriguez, Lago, Marcos Alonso; Carreira, Beltran, Moriba, Mingueza; Iago Aspas, Borja Iglesias, Alfon Gonzalez.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 2-1
