Atalanta-Inter prediction, Gasp against his nemesis: shocking overall score

by Mike

In what is now shaping up to be a three-way race for the Scudetto, Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta cannot be underestimated. In mid-March they were just 3 points behind league leaders Inter and are just a whisker away from second-placed Napoli. In short, they’re all happily in the “mix”, with the teams from Bergamo and Naples who, unlike the reigning Italian champions – still busy in the Champions League and the Coppa Italia – will be able to dedicate themselves only to the league, a detail that is anything but trivial.

The direct clash at the Gewiss Stadium will try to unravel the question, the last succulent course of a Serie A round that closes a long tour de force – they haven’t stopped since November – before going “in the attic” for two weeks and leaving room for the national teams. Atalanta continue to shine away from home and last Sunday they humiliated Juventus, inflicting on them their heaviest defeat since the 60s, a 0-4 that will remain indelibly etched in the memories of the Dea fans. Gasperini’s team dominated completely, but if they want to continue dreaming of the championship they’ll have to get three points again in front of their own fans: it’s been since last December (3-2 against Empoli) that they’ve won in the league.

Inter on the other hand, recorded their third win in a row this week, easily beating Feyenoord (2-1) in the second leg of the Champions League round of sixteen, confirming a superiority that was already seen in the first leg (0-2). Simone Inzaghi is hoping to see this brilliance again soon in Italy: in the last round Inter had a hard time beating bottom club Monza (3-2), cancelling out a two-goal lead with Arnautovic, Calhanoglu and an own goal by Kyriakopoulos.

Atalanta-Inter: the latest news on the lineups

The Atalanta medical room is struggling to cope: Posch and Cuadrado have been injured and will not be available for the match against Inter. In addition to them, Gasperini will not be able to count on Kossounou, Scamacca, Scalvini and Sulemana. A toss-up in attack between Pasalic and De Ketelaere, with the Belgian favorite.

Inzaghi will be without the injured Zielinski, Dimarco, Zalewski and de Vrij and with doubts in defense over who to field between Pavard and Bisseck. Bergamo will have a short bench, with the regular starters called to work overtime.

The prediction

Inter Milan are now a real taboo for Gasperini, who hasn’t beaten his former team since 2018 and has always lost in the last 5 previous matches, with a shocking overall score of 16-5 for the Nerazzurri. In Bergamo, however, the matches are usually more balanced: Inter have won the last two but if we consider the last 15 the balance is 4 wins each and 7 draws. The feeling is that Inzaghi, despite his men being less fresh due to the Champions League commitments, knows how to defuse the Dea, who, among other things, definitely struggle more at home. In any case, we can expect a balanced match, in which it is very likely that both will score. A draw cannot be ruled out.

The probable Atalanta-Inter line-ups

ATALANTA (3-4-3): Carnesecchi; Djimsiti, Hien, Kolasinac; Bellanova, de Roon, Ederson, Zappacosta; De Ketelaere, Retegui, Lookman.
INTER (3-5-2): Sommer; Pavard, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Carlos Augusto; Lautaro Martinez, Thuram.
