“Riscatto” (Redemption) will be the watchword in the Unipol Domus postponed match between Cagliari, who after three useful results in a row have stalled again, losing 2-0 to Torino, and Lazio, who woke up too late against Fiorentina (1-2), losing a delicate direct match in the race for fourth place. In the league table, however, not much has changed: the Sardinians continue to have a slight margin over the relegation zone but remain in the thick of the fight, while the Capitolini have retained fourth place, also taking advantage of Juve’s defeat in Naples (the Bianconeri could have overtaken Marco Baroni’s team with a win).
Davide Nicola, coach of the rossoblù, spoke of tiredness after the defeat against granata: despite a good Caprile – the goalkeeper arrived in this transfer window from Napoli and was by far the best player on the pitch – Cagliari suffered against the physicality of Toro, who were then able to maximize thanks to a brace from the Scottish player Adams. The fatigue of playing two matches probably also affected Lazio’s performance against Fiorentina: in the last two weeks the Biancocelesti have been playing in the Europa League, playing the last two matches (Real Sociedad, Braga) of the single-group phase. And last Thursday’s defeat in Portugal (1-0) was painless, since Baroni and his men finished in first place anyway, a position that will allow them to play directly in the round of 16 and also be seeded.
Cagliari-Lazio: the latest news on the lineups
Nicola is grappling with the usual dilemma: who will play in the attacking midfield? Gaetano or Viola? The former Napoli player seems to have the edge for now, but the duel is still on. It’s no go for Luvumbo: the Angolan won’t be back even against the Biancocelesti. The other ballot is in midfield, where Adopo and Deiola are vying for a shirt.
In Lazio the main change compared to the match against Fiorentina will be the return of Rovella from the 1st minute, flanked in midfield by Dele-Bashiru. Baroni, as in the cup, will not have Guendouzi available, as he is struggling with the flu. Up front Isaksen, Dia and Zaccagni behind Castellanos but keep an eye on Pedro’s odds, which seem to be rising dramatically.

The prediction
Lazio have always come back from their last five trips to Sardinia with the three points: in this run, the Biancocelesti have scored a total of 12 goals and conceded only 3. Moreover, the streak of positive results against the rossoblù has grown to 19 after the 2-1 victory last November at the Olimpico. The previous results, therefore, suggest we should have faith in Baroni’s team: in our opinion, however, Lazio’s victory – between the efforts in the cup and a slight dip in form – is not so obvious and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Sardinians managed to score at least one goal.
