Almost two months after their last defeat in La Liga, Real Madrid fell in Barcelona on Saturday against the unsuspected Espanyol, who came out on top 1-0 thanks to a Romero goal five minutes from the final whistle. The same player who, shortly before, had committed a bad foul on Mbappé, which was not sanctioned with red by the referee (an episode that literally infuriated the Madrid players).
Smoothed, then, what would have been the sixth consecutive victory for Carlo Ancelotti’s Blancos, still first in the standings but again with Atletico Madrid hot on their heels. The Colchoneros, in fact, took advantage of their cousins’ slip by moving back to -1 (Barcelona, victorious over Alaves, also moved closer).
It looms incandescent, then, the derby scheduled for next weekend, with the team of “Cholo” Simeone dreaming of the coup at the “Bernabeu” and thus the possible overtaking. Before focusing on the extra-cittadina, however, Real Madrid must focus its attention on the Copa del Rey: having reached the quarterfinals, the Merengues will play for access to the semifinals with Borja Jimenez’s Leganés, which in the previous round managed to prevail albeit with great suffering over Almeria (2-3), a club that plays in the Segunda Division. In La Liga, on the other hand, the Pepineros are in the midst of a relegation tussle – right now they have two points more than the third-last – and are coming off a narrow defeat to Rayo Vallecano, in which de la Fuente missed the penalty of the possible 1-1 in the midst of the recovery.
The match between Leganés and Real Madrid, valid for the quarterfinals of the King’s Cup and scheduled for Wednesday at 9 p.m., will not be broadcast on live TV or streaming. As far as Italy is concerned, the rights to broadcast the Spanish event have not been acquired by any broadcaster or satellite/streaming platform.

The Prediction
Ancelotti will make a turnover but without overdoing it, also in light of several injury absences (Rudiger is also hurt). In any case, the Italian coach expects a reaction after the defeat to Espanyol in the league: likely success for Real Madrid, which will likely manage to keep its goal unbeaten as well.
Leganés-Real Madrid likely lineups.
LEGANES (4-5-1): Soriano, Altimira, Rosier, Sergio González, Nastasic; Tapia, Neyou, Brasanac; Juan Cruz, Dani Raba, Miguel de la Fuente.
REAL MADRID (4-2-3-1): Lunin, Lucas Vázquez, Asencio, Tchouaméni, Mendy; Ceballos, Modric, Güler, Brahim Diaz; Vinicius, Endrick.
POSSIBLE RESULT: 0-2
