The rivalry between Arsenal and Manchester City is a recent one, flared up in the last two seasons, in which Gunners and Cityzens dueled for the title. In both cases it was Pep Guardiola’s team that came out on top: the “master” denied the “pupil” – the reference is obviously to Mikel Arteta, now Arsenal’s coach but once a collaborator of the Catalan coach – the joy of winning the Premier League twice in a row.
This year, however, they both risk being left high and dry, as Liverpool has another step and seems destined to end City’s “dictatorship,” which has won for four consecutive years. Of the two, it is, in any case, Arsenal that has the best chance of catching up with the Reds: the Londoners are currently second, -6 from Arne Slot’s team, which, however, still has a game to make up. Despite the ups and downs, the Gunners do not give the impression that they want to give up: a week ago, thanks to a goal by former Bologna man Calafiori, they took away the 3 points from Wolverhampton (0-1) despite the fact that things had turned ugly due to the expulsion, at the end of the first half, of Lewis-Skelly (the sporting judge has since cancelled the disqualification, with the talent who grew up in the youth teams who will therefore be available).
City in slight recovery
On Wednesday, Arsenal also beat Girona by a narrow margin (1-2), thus finishing in fourth place in the Champions League championship stage standings.
To try to close the gap with Liverpool Arteta is now waiting for news from the market: the club is looking for a first striker of depth who can make up for the absences of the injured Saka and Gabriel Jesus. After two very difficult months, Manchester City, on the other hand, is trying to get back on its feet. The English champions are slowly regaining their lost certainties – also thanks to new recruits – and are coming off two crucial victories: the one with Chelsea in the league (the Blues capitulated 3-1 at Etihad Stadium a week ago) and the one in the Champions League with Club Brugge, which allowed them to avoid a resounding elimination (they will face Real Madrid in the playoffs). Guardiola’s men share fourth place with Newcastle, at this point the primary goal since getting back into the title race is virtually impossible.

The Prediction
After two consecutive “under 2.5s” in the first leg match the goals returned: at Etihad Stadium in September it ended 2-2. We expect an eventful match this time as well, with the Gunners that although starting slightly favored will have to pay attention to a Manchester City on the rebound and with two of its best men (Foden and De Bruyne) back in great form. Also watch out for the statistic on Expected Goals from set pieces: Arsenal is in first place.
