Sassuolo-Salernitana is a Serie A Week 8 match played on Sunday at 15:00: odds, predictions, TV and streaming.
Although the offensive numbers are not even close to those they used to record last year – thanks to the absences of Berardi and Traoré, who are out injured – in the last round Sassuolo returned to taste the joy of three points. A fortnight ago, the Emilian team came out on top in a photo-finish in a very balanced match against Torino. It was a match that seemed destined for a 0-0 draw, but in the dying minutes it was unblocked by a precise header from substitute Alvarez, a talented Uruguayan striker that the Neroverde club picked up from Penarol in the summer
A goal that allows coach Alessio Dionisi to smile again after the three draws in a row against Spezia, AC Milan and Cremonese and the heavy home defeat against Udinese. The success in the Piedmont capital could give Sassuolo the momentum they have lacked so far. Consigli and his team-mates, as mentioned, score in droves, but so far they are the team that, together with Atalanta, has collected the highest number of clean sheets: four. Quite an unusual statistic for Dionisi’s men, who last year, out of thirty-eight matches, barely kept their goal unbeaten on three occasions.
The Mapei also no longer seems to be a determining factor: one win, one draw and one defeat represent Sassuolo’s meagre home haul so far. In Emilia, at the resumption of the championship, comes Salernitana, who have two points less in the standings. After narrowly missing out on a resounding victory at the Allianz Stadium against Juventus (2-2), the Campania side lost their direct clash with Lecce, surrendering 2-1 at the Arechi. The team led by Davide Nicola has certainly made progress compared to the tribulations of last season, but for what they showed on the pitch they could have had a few more points. To date the only affirmation is the one against Sampdoria.
Sassuolo-Salernitana: the latest line-up news
Waiting for Berardi – the captain is expected to return in the next match against Inter – Dionisi will reintroduce the trident formed by Laurienté, Pinamonti and Kyriakopoulos. The latter is in the running with young D’Andrea, already seen in action against Torino. Alvarez, on the other hand, will come into the game again. In midfield more Thorstvedt than Matheus Henrique, while in defence Erlic’s presence is in doubt.
Magnanimous rest also for Nicola, who can count again on Lovato, Radovanovic and Bohinen. The Norwegian should return from the ‘1, with Maggiore alternating with Vilhena. On the flanks Candreva and Mazzocchi, the latter fresh from his debut with the major national team. Fazio will be absent in defence, while the coach will rely on the Piatek-Dia tandem up front.
The Prediction
Away from home, Salernitana have a history of drawing. That’s five in a row if we also consider last season. In Emilia, however, the Granata have never won and it is unlikely they will break this taboo against a Sassuolo side that has appeared solid and on the upswing. In any case, the two teams will probably play it openly, as they have no major problems in the standings. The total goals could be at least two.
