Heavy disqualification for Sinner: not only this but another problem could come over the next few weeks
We all know by now when the Lausanne Tas will rule on the appeal that Wada filed against the acquittal related to the Clostebol case for Jannik Sinner. The ruling is expected in April, and until then, the Italian tennis player will continue to play with more pressure than usually arrives. Of course, at least now we know something, and that’s already a point.
But what could happen in the coming weeks? During OaSport’s Tennis Mania program, broadcast on Youtube, host Dario Puppo had Guido Monaco and Massimiliano Ambesi as guests. And it is the latter who took the floor talking about what could happen.
Heavy disqualification for Sinner: Ambesi’s ruling
“At this point he is safe to play the US 1000 and possibly Monte Carlo. It is still a sensitive issue… There was a way to advance the timing that could have been requested by the player’s legal staff, but practically in the early days of this matter, and the usual procedure was preferred. The matter was then referred back to CAS and its timeframe.” These were the thoughts on what happened, of course, on waiting. Then, Ambesi, said this.
The case of Atalanta’s Palomino, now at Cagliari, who tested positive just when he played at Dea, was discussed. “The judge chosen by Sinner’s staff,” explained the Eurosport journalist, “is a theorist of non-responsibility, a staunch proponent, and in fact his hand in the Palomino case and in other cases can be seen. The judge chosen by WADA represents the exact opposite, but let’s try to explain. The adjudicator is impartial by nature, then he may have a bias one way or the other… Certainly the adjudicator chosen by WADA is quite inclined to always declare the responsibility of the athlete in any case, the one chosen by Sinner has a decidedly opposite position. The fact that he has appointed as chairman of the arbitration panel a former tennis player, albeit not a very high-profile one, therefore still capable of knowing certain dynamics and above all a meek and a balanced one, could tip the balance on Sinner’s side as well.” In short, some confidence remains. Although, of course, we don’t know how it will turn out.
