The first day of the Serie A return leg closes with the Monday postponement between Monza and Fiorentina. Monza last in the standings has failed to turn over a new leaf after Nesta’s exoneration, for the Viola the last success dates back to a month ago now: since the 1-0 win against Cagliari, the gigliati have barely scored a point (draw with Juventus at the Stadium), losing to Bologna, Udinese and Napoli.
Bove’s absence is being felt and it is no coincidence that, without the former Roma player, Fiorentina has lost balance (no less than 2 goals per game conceded in the last three days). Fiorentina remains favored but may not be able to keep their goal unbroken even against Bocchetti’s team, which is likely to create quite a few headaches for the Gigliati.
Predictions on the other matches
Day 19 of the Spanish La Liga concludes with an intriguing clash for Europe between Real Sociedad and Villarreal, eighth and fifth in the standings respectively, separated by only five points. The Yellow Submarine is having a good season but in December has failed to keep up the pace of previous weeks. The conditions are there for a balanced match but with goals.
In Serie B there is the derby between Pisa and Carrarese. In their last two matches in 2024, Pippo Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri have brought home as many victories, one of them against leading Sassuolo, defeated 3-1 at the Arena Garibaldi. Two weeks ago, however, the Tuscans sharpened the crisis of Sampdoria, beaten at Marassi by a goal from Tramoni (0-1), who also scored against the neroverdi (8 goals in 13 games for the Corsican player). Carrarese currently has a quiet ranking and with only one win and six defeats in ten away games a new defeat would not be a drama anyway.
