Premier League, there are three matches on Saturday afternoon: surprising Nottingham Forest will be on stage in Brentford’s fort.
There’s no stopping in England. In fact, it’s getting ready for the traditional Christmas soccer blowout. As many as four Premier League fixtures are scheduled within 15 days between Christmas and New Year’s Day. It starts this weekend: after the Villa Park showdown between hosts Aston Villa and Manchester City, three matches will be staged on Saturday afternoon. One of them will feature Brentford, the team with the best home record in the English top league.
The Bees, if they could always play in front of their home crowd, would probably be in full fight for the title: 22 points in 8 matches but most importantly 26 goals scored. When the red-and-whites are on stage at Community Stadium, then, there is really none for anyone. The problem is that on the away side, on the other hand, they trudge resoundingly, having barely scored a point away from West London (relegation average).
As proof of this, last Sunday Brentford returned to losing ways, failing to avoid defeat at Stamford Bridge in the derby with Chelsea (2-1). Will redemption come at home? This time it will not be easy to take the full stake, as the Bees will be visited by surprising Nottingham Forest, which has now acquired the reputation of “big-killer.” After conquering Anfield Road in September, the Reds took the satisfaction of beating Manchester United at home as well (2-3) and a week ago they immediately repeated themselves, taking the scalp of the better-ranked Aston Villa (2-1). Not bad for a team, that of Nuno Espirito Santo, which should have aspired to a quiet salvation: Forest at the moment has 28 points and is in the middle of the Champions League zone. For Brentford, in short, it will not be a walk in the park.
The predictions on the other matches
Newcastle, on the other hand, will try to give continuity to their resounding victory with Leicester: Foxes swept away 4-0 and return to success after a four-day fast.
If they want to get close to the Europe zone again, the Magpies cannot miss these kinds of games. Another assist comes from the calendar: Tonali and his teammates will be the guests of newly promoted Ipswich Town, third-last in the standings despite the valuable victory won seven days ago in the direct clash with Wolverhampton that allowed them to raise their heads again after three defeats. Newcastle, which is technically far superior to the Tractor Boys, is favored but is unlikely to keep its goal unbroken again. Even less unbalanced odds in West Ham-Brighton: the Hammers come from two positive results (win with Wolves and away draw with Bournemouth), an attempt to come out of the crisis; the Seagulls, on the other hand, are a bit down after the exploits of October and November (they haven’t won in 4 rounds). Who will come out on top? When in doubt, we prefer to bet on goals: they will likely score at least one on each side.
