Bundesliga, predictions 11th day: matches Saturday 3:30 p.m.

by Martin

Bundesliga, obliged to win Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund: the gap to top Bayern Munich is already very wide.

Look for antagonists of Bayer Munich, determined to take back the scepter of Bundesliga champion, last year won (or rather, dominated) by Bayer Leverkusen. The Bavarians on the last day before the break for national team commitments made their first attempts to escape, moving to +5 over second-placed Leipzig. The defending champions, stopped by surprise by bottom-of-the-table Bochum, slipped to -9 from the top, while the gap between Bayern and Borussia Dortmund, another team that in theory should try to undermine Vincent Kompany’s battleship, reached double digits (10) after the Yellow and Black collapsed at home to Mainz.

It is a Borussia side that continues to be seesaw and for now has to settle for a disappointing seventh place. Nuri Sahin’s yellow-and-whites are paying dearly for their poor away performance – away from Signal Iduna Park they have won only one point – and too many goals conceded (18 in total for what is the worst defense among the top seven in the standings). Sahin, in short, cannot sleep soundly, especially since in this round of the championship his men will have to deal with the pummeling Freiburg, which has one point more in the standings and is doing very well. Will the famous yellow and black “wall” once again take the chestnuts out of the fire for the Turkish-born coach, since at home Borussia has so far made it five out of five? In our opinion yes, but the guests should give Dortmund a hard time in a match of at least one goal on each side.

The predictions on the other matches

The break may have done Bayer Leverkusen good, who have been winless for three games. The Aspirins are not the ones of last year, but neither are they the ones seen at work two weeks ago: against Heidenheim, which has not won in the league since September, Xabi Alonso’s team should find their smile (and the three points) again.

Looking for redemption as well is Stuttgart, which before the break had bid farewell with a crushing home defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt. The Swabians have the opportunity to turn over a new leaf against Bochum, last in the standings (but nevertheless reinvigorated by the draw with Bayer Leverkusen, the first after 5 consecutive defeats): goals should not be lacking at the Mercedes Benz Arena, considering the permeability of the host rearguard (already 30 goals conceded). Tricky away match instead for Leipzig, which will visit a Heidenheim determined to move away from the red zone. Expected balance, finally, in Wolfsburg-Union Berlin: in slight recovery the green-and-whites, returning from 3 positive results, but the capitols are very solid (third best defense with just 8 goals conceded) and after 10 days are stably stationed among the top six.
