Wednesday, Nov. 13 predictions: there’s tennis with the Atp Finals, and the Women’s Champions League pending Nations League soccer.
If Daniil Medvedev’s clear defeat against Taylor Fritz on the first day of the Atp Finals had belied the bookmakers’ predictions, the one suffered last Monday by world No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz against Norway’s Casper Ruud was decidedly more surprising and left everyone speechless. At the end of the match Alcaraz revealed that he did not feel well before the match with Ruud. “In the morning my stomach hurt and I couldn’t sustain long exchanges-I don’t want to make excuses but I felt sick,” said the Murcia-born tennis player.
Fatigue or no fatigue, the knockout with Ruud now forces him to beat Russian Andrey Rublev to avoid running into what would be an incredible elimination. The Spaniard is a clear favorite according to the bookmakers but one cannot overlook the difficulties he had in the opener against Ruud: if Rublev can be consistent in response and on serve, taking advantage of Alcaraz’s precarious moment of form, he could win at least a set.
Predictions on the other matches
Alexander Zverev confirmed that he is one of the most in-form tennis players in his opener against Russian Rublev, who was unable to resist him.The German prevailed in just over an hour’s play, taking his first win (double 6-4) in Turin. Ruud has created some problems for Zverev in the past, but right now the gap seems clear between the two, with the German going through a great period of form. There is a good chance he will win in two sets.
As for soccer while waiting for the Nations League, the group stage matches of the Women’s Champions League are being played with Roma, among others, on the field, awaiting a very difficult challenge against Lyon. A perfect game will be needed to withstand the French champions.
