Retirement Tamberi: Gimbo confessed everything about his future in an interview with EuroSport. Here are the words of the Olympic champion
In Tokyo in 2021 he made us dream, jumping higher than anyone and winning a resounding Olympic gold that will remain in the history of Italian sport. In Paris, on the other hand, he made us suffer because of his physical condition that effectively cut him out of the title fight.
Gimbo Tamberi is a divisive sportsman. Some love him for those sometimes outlandish attitudes, while others disagree with everything he does. In recent months, after the Olympics, there was even talk of a possible retirement from the scene, and interviewed by Eurosport exclusively, Tamberi said this about his future.
Retirement Tamberi, here’s the confession
“Before the Olympics, I always said that Paris would probably be my last big race, however, quitting like this now would not be fair to myself. It was not easy to make the decision to go on the platform because it was my decision against many people’s decision. I didn’t give a damn, I had to try. I got so much adrenaline inside me, I felt like a force. From that moment, until I missed the third run at 2.27, I believed, like a deluded person, but I believed I could do it. “
In short, a Gimbo who will still try to be on the platform especially because of the bad luck that accompanied him during the Paris event. A Tamberi who just can’t stand to go out of the scene in this way and would like to try again, even if he knows very well that it will not be easy at all: young people attack, they are concrete, they manage to push themselves further and for everyone age advances, and in a sport like his, where athletic condition is really everything, then there is always the risk of making bad figures.
