Chelsea-Servette, Conference League: tv, streaming, likely lineups, prediction

by Michael

Chelsea-Servette is a match validating the first leg of the Conference League access playoffs and is played Thursday at 9 p.m.: stats, odds, prediction, TV and streaming.

Chelsea returns to Europe after a season in which their only commitments were the league and the two domestic cups. However, this is the “minor” Europe, namely the Conference League, the third most important continental football event. The feeling is that the Blues, although accustomed to quite different stages, will not snub it, having to try to turn the page after two years of almost total darkness despite the many pounds spent by the London club in the various market sessions.

On the bench, Enzo Maresca took the place of Mauricio Pochettino, who was exonerated after only one season: sixth place was not enough for him – Chelsea had initially qualified for the Europa League, but Manchester United’s victory in the FA Cup final caused it to be “relegated” to the Conference – to stay on the bench.

The Blues’ conference adventure begins

Trust, then, to the Italian coach pupil of Pep Guardiola, fresh from promotion to the Premier League with Leicester. While waiting for some reinforcements to arrive (Joao Felix) and, above all, for the squad to be thinned out – the redundancies currently could even form another team – the Blues go in the hunt for their first success in an official match after their Premier League debut defeat to defending champions Manchester City, who got the better of them 2-0 at Stamford Bridge last Sunday.

In the Conference League play-offs, they will face Servette, a Swiss club that was prominent in both Europe and the Conference last season, making it to the knockout stage (it was eliminated in the round of 16 by Viktoria Plzen).

Holders of the Swiss Cup, the Genevans failed to qualify for the Europa League. In the preliminary round against Portuguese side Braga, they got the worst of it (0-0 in the first leg and 1-2 in the return), relegating to the Conference. In the league, after three wins in a row, came two ugly defeats against Basel (0-6) and Lugano (3-1), which rang more than one alarm bell. Coach Thomas Haberli is grappling with the doubt of Kutesa – the player has offers from Arabia – while Maresca will launch new signings Jorgensen, Pedro Neto, Dewsbury-Hall, Veiga and Guiu.
