From Milan to Juve: sensational return

by Martin

From Milan to Juve, having blurred the main target, the Bianconeri will try to bring the Lusitanian footballer back to Serie A.

The main goal of Cristiano Giuntoli, head of Juventus’ technical area, is to make the Bianconeri’s squad even more competitive at the end of the market. Bridging the gap with Italian champion Inter in this transfer window is by no means easy, but the sporting director of the Old Lady still wants to try. And he has shown it with the first three shots scored in the first days of July.

The first was that of Brazilian midfielder Douglaz Luiz. To snatch him from Aston Villa Giuntoli, in addition to about 28 million euros, had to sacrifice two very promising youngsters such as Enzo Barrenechea, back from a good season at Frosinone, and Samuel Iling Jr., a speedy English outside player who also collected some minutes in the last two seasons with Massimiliano Allegri on the bench.

The second purchase, on the other hand, concerned goalkeeping. Indulging new coach Thiago Motta, Giuntoli brought to Turin Michele Di Gregorio, named the best goalkeeper in Serie A last season with the Monza shirt. The former number one of the Brianza club will thus go to take the place of Poland’s Wojciech Szczesny, who is currently looking for a new team. Last but not least, the former Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram, another pet project of the former Napoli sporting director. Lilian’s son has thus “joined” in Italy his brother Marcus, who, however, wears the Inter shirt.

The strengthening campaign, however, is not over. Juventus, in order to continue buying, will have to give up someone and the clues almost all lead to two players: Federico Chiesa and Matias Soulé.

The treasure from the disposals will certainly be reinvested to get, among others, Teun Koopmeiners, a strong midfielder from Atalanta and at the top of Giuntoli’s wish list.

Motta also asked to reinforce the right lane. And unsurprisingly, Juve in recent days tried to bring Portuguese full-back Joao Cancelo, who moreover has already worn the Juventus jersey in the 2018-19 season, back to Serie A. The former Inter, however, has definitely closed the doors before a possible return to Italy, as his will is to continue playing for Barcelona, the club to which he was sold on loan a year ago. According to the latest rumors, Giuntoli, at this point, could turn his attentions to one of his compatriots, Diogo Dalot, currently owned by Manchester United but already passed by our league: in 2020-21 he was on a move (on loan) to AC Milan.
