Uruguay-Colombia, Copa America: streaming, probable formations, predictions.

Uruguay-Colombia is a match valid for the semifinals of the Copa America and is played on Thursday at 02:00 (Italian time): statistics, probable formations, predictions.

Who will have the honor and burden of trying to take the continental champion scepter out of Argentina’s hands? The name of the other finalist of the Copa America 2024 will come out of the match in Charlotte (North Carolina) between Uruguay and Colombia, coincidentally both coached by Argentine technical commissioners: on one side Marcelo “El Loco” Bielsa – who also coached the Albiceleste in the past, from 1998 to 2004 – on the other Nestor Lorenzo, formerly the rough central of the Selección that came second in Italia ’90, who also passed through our Serie A (Bari).

We are in the part of the scoreboard where Brazil should have made it to the bottom but the Greenoro, never convincing, stopped in the quarters precisely against Celeste, the selection that so far has shone the brightest right along with Colombia. Once again against the Canarinha the difference was made by Uruguay’s defense, the least beaten of the tournament on par with Argentina’s: after muzzling the Brazilian attack in regulation time (0-0) Bielsa’s men prevailed on penalties, taking advantage of mistakes by Militao and Douglas Luiz. Colombia, on the other hand, had an easy time against Panama, getting the widest victory of the competition (5-0). Again on the shields was James Rodriguez: the former Real Madrid man confirmed his inspiration and against the Canaleros recorded a goal and two assists.

The Cafeteros, Copa America’s best attack with 11 goals scored in four matches, dream of returning to lift that trophy that has been missing from their trophy case since 2001 (Colombia’s only triumph in this competition). It would even be the 16th instead for Celeste, whose last achievement was 13 years ago (2011).

Bielsa will have to give up two starters in the challenge with Colombia, and they are two absences that can make the difference: Ronald Araujo – the Barcelona defender is injured – and former Cagliari man Nandez, disqualified.

The prediction

Two ties in the last two previous matches, including a 2-2 draw last November in World Cup qualifying. Uruguay and Colombia had also faced each other in the knockout stage of the last Copa America and it was the Cafeteros who prevailed after penalty kicks. From what they have shown so far, a balanced match is looming, between a team that defends well and plays fluid soccer (Uruguay) and another that particularly shines in the offensive phase thanks to thick players like Rodriguez and Diaz. Uruguay’s two absences-both in defense-look set to weigh heavily, however: Colombia slightly favored in a match of at least one goal on each side.
