Jamaica-Venezuela and Mexico-Ecuador are two matches from the third day of the group stage of the Copa America and are played Monday at 02:00 (Italian time): streaming, formations, predictions.
In the last match against Ecuador, Jamaica managed to break the goal taboo: the author of the first Jamaican goal in a Copa America final stage was (and who else?) West Ham striker Michail Antonio, the Raggae Boyz’ most representative player.
It was not enough, however, to avoid the second defeat after the one they suffered in the opener with Mexico (1-0): the Tricolor, in fact, prevailed 3-1, leaving Jamaica in last place in the standings, still pinned at zero points. All that remains for the men led by Iceland’s Heimir Hallgrimsson is to try to bring home at least a point in the match with Venezuela, the big surprise of this group stage. With two wins out of two, Vinotinto is certain to play in the round of 16 but must complete the task by finishing in first place, a position that will allow them to meet defending champions Argentina in the knockout phase. Fernando Batista’s selection is on full points thanks to successes with Ecuador (2-1) and Mexico (1-0) and drawing against the Jamaicans will secure the top spot.
The prediction
With minimal effort and without enchanting much, Venezuela managed to score six points in their first two matches but the gap is not that wide compared to a plucky Jamaica. The Raggae Boyz would have deserved a little more and it would be no surprise if they managed to at least avoid defeat.
The likely lineups for Jamaica-Venezuela
GIAMAICA (3-4-2-1): Waite; Hector, Latibeaudiere, Harding; Lembikisa, Lowe, Palmer, Marshall; Nicholson, Gray; Dixon.
VENEZUELA (4-2-3-1): Romo; Amaburu, Ferraresi, Osorio, Navarro; Martinez, Makoun; Lacava, Savarino, Soteldo; Cadiz.
POSSIBLE RESULT: 1-1
Mexico is in danger of dropping out of the Copa America already after the rounds for the third time in a row. Jaime Lozano’s selection, while winning, had not convinced at all in the opener against the least competitive opponent in the grouping, Jamaica. And it was no surprise that they were defeated on Thursday by Venezuela, which won 1-0 over El Tri thanks to a penalty converted by Rondon early in the second half.
The absence of midfielder Alvarez was felt more than expected and Feyenoord center forward Gimenez failed to sting the tidy Venezuelan rearguard. To avoid elimination, Mexico must beat Ecuador at all costs: the Tricolor have 3 points like Montes and co. but have better goal difference and would qualify for the round of 16 even with a draw. First place is also still on the line – it would allow them to avoid Argentina in the round of 16 – but it is already, in fact, booked by Venezuela, who need only not lose to already eliminated Jamaica to finish ahead of everyone.
The Prediction
This is shaping up to be a very balanced match, with Ecuador doing everything to avoid defeat against a Mexico that instead will have to attack, unable to settle for a draw. It is difficult to overbalance, but we believe that the conditions are in place to see a match with at least one goal on each side. The second half is likely to be more prolific than the first half.
