Peru-Canada, Copa America: streaming, probable formations, predictions

by Sabrina

Peru-Canada is a match valid for the second day of the group stage of the Copa America and is played Wednesday at 00:00 (Italian time): statistics, probable formations, predictions.

Canada surprised everyone in the opening match of Copa America ’24 against Argentina by managing to hold their own against the defending world champions at least in the first half of the game. Then in the second half, the Albiceleste raised their center of gravity even further, finding the 1-0 goal almost immediately with Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez. Messi also tried, but the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner missed two good chances to close out the game. A task that then fell to interista Lautaro Martinez in the final (2-0).

For the North Americans, what they offered in Atlanta, however, remains a performance that bodes well for the upcoming matches, which are decisive for qualification to the knockout stage. Former Leipzig and Leeds coach Jesse Marsch, enlisted only two months ago, has allowed Canada to find some defensive compactness but it is the goals that, at the moment, are in short supply. David and his teammates, in fact, have not scored a single one in their last 3 matches, the two friendlies with Holland (4-0) and France (0-0) and the one with Argentina. The litmus test will be the Kansas City match with Peru, which drew 0-0 with Chile in the opener. A frankly forgettable match from the point of view of the spectacle offered, with the men led by Uruguayan Jorge Fossati good at rendering the Chileans inoffensive (only one shot on goal). The Bicolor, on the other hand, had plenty of chances to take the lead, including with Lapadula himself. Fossati against Canada will in any case have to do without Boca Juniors outfielder Advincula, who ended up knocked out due to injury.

The prediction

Given the recent offensive numbers of the two selections, the one in Kansas City should not be a goal-rich contest. Peru, which won the only previous one (in a friendly in 2010), will most likely manage to avoid defeat, but Canada, even against Argentina, has shown that it is not a “soft” opponent: a draw, in short, would not be a surprise.
