Lille-Lyon is a match of the 32nd day of Ligue 1 and is played Monday at 9 p.m.: statistics, likely lineups, live TV and predictions.
Paulo Fonseca’s Lille dream of participating in the next Champions League, but to be sure of finishing in the top four they will necessarily have to win the match with Lyon and become masters of their own destiny. In fact, in case of a success in the post-match with Lyon, the men led by the Lusitanian coach – currently among the papabili to take Stefano Pioli’s place on the AC Milan bench – would leapfrog Brest to third place, climbing to 58 points.
From this year, it’s worth remembering, the top 3 finishers in Ligue 1 qualify directly for the “single group” stage, the big news of the upcoming cup with big ears. The fourth, on the other hand, will have to play the preliminary rounds. Lille is fresh from a narrow victory in Metz, where David and his teammates encountered more than one difficulty (1-2), failing to close out the game sooner rather than later. At home, on the other hand, their performance is decidedly more regular: no one has done better, not even PSG who just became French champions (the tally so far is 11 wins, three draws and one loss).
Lyon is reborn
It will not be easy, in any case, to impose themselves on the most in-form team of the past two months, which since March 9 has collected five wins, one draw and only one defeat (with PSG).
Pierre Sage, initially “only” a ferryman, has been able to revive Lyon after a disastrous first part of the season: the Gones have regained their lost certainties and are now in full fight for seventh place, just one length away. Not forgetting that at the end of the month they have a chance to detach their pass to Europe through winning the French Cup, where they will face – the final is played right in Lille’s stadium – Luis Enrique’s almighty PSG.
The prediction
This is the third previous match of the season: in the French Cup, Lyon prevailed, while in the league it was Lille who came out on top. So a very balanced match is looming, between a team that is a judgment at home (Lille) and another that has been on a roll for a couple of months and has won eight of the last ten away matches. We would gladly spend a token on Fonseca’s Dogues but the most “reassuring” bet is on goals: we predict at least three overall.
