Swiatek-Giorgi, Wta Miami: schedule, live TV, streaming, predictions

by Thorsten

Swiatek-Giorgi is a match valid for the second round of the Wta 1000 tournament in Miami: schedule, news, predictions, live TV and streaming.

It took one hour and 35 minutes, Camila Giorgi, to fold Poland’s Magdalena Frech in the first round of the Wta in Miami (6-4 6-2). It is only the second win of the season for the Marche-based tennis player, who in her debut match in the prestigious Florida tournament gave the impression, overall, that she is in good shape.

Her frequent accelerations, as usual, made the difference, with her opponent unable to find countermeasures to defuse her. A convincing debut as it had been two weeks ago in Indian Wells, when the Azzurra had allowed practically nothing to Britain’s Boulter, fresh from her triumph in San Diego. The Maceratese’s run had then been interrupted in the second round, in her match against the Czech Noskova, number 31 in the world. Giorgi, in any case, appeared pleased with her performance, and in post-match interviews said it was not a given that she would be able to “find” her tennis again after more than a month of stop (she never took the court in February due to physical problems).

To advance to the third round, however, she will now have to climb a mountain: awaiting her is world number one Iga Swiatek, who a week ago consolidated her world ranking lead by triumphing in Indian Wells. The Polish champion is aiming for the Sunshine Double and is unlikely to be unprepared against the Italian player, whom she has faced twice in her career. Swiatek in 2024 has only cashed in two defeats and, more importantly, compared to Giorgi, has played 13 more matches.

The prediction

The last head-to-head match between Swiatek and Giorgi was at the Australian Open 2021, with the Warsaw native giving up only six games to the Italian. Two years earlier, also in Melbourne, it was Giorgi who prevailed, although the Pole was only 18 years old. Needless to say, it will need a feat for the Marche woman to take out the world number one, who proves to be unbreakable on slower cement courts. Swiatek should prevail in two sets, containing Giorgi’s aggressive tennis.
