Sinner’s amulet comes from the South: it made a difference

by Martin

Sinner, thanks to this revelation it’s all clearer now: he had it with him in Australia too and it made a difference.

The members of his team we all know, from the first to the last. They are the ones who, during matches, tremble and dream along with him. They are the ones on whom the cameras linger often and often, because it is always interesting to find out how those who stay in the box and cheer for their champion of the heart are doing.

Next to Jannik Sinner, however, are not only the very famous Darren Cahill, Simone Vagnozzi, Giacomo Naldi, and Umberto Ferrara. Also gravitating in his orbit is Felice Calabrò, and don’t worry if his name seems to tell you nothing. He is not as prominent as the two coaches, as the physiotherapist and as the trainer of the South Tyrolean, but he still plays a very important role in the San Candido native’s universe. He is 58 years old, from Salò, and is the professional photographer who follows Sinner and his team on trips around the world. He loves tennis himself and has had the opportunity to form a very strong bond with the new world No. 3.

For this reason, Corriere della Sera thought well of interviewing him and, why not, snatching some anecdotes about the champion of the moment. A few tidbits he even gave us, but without ever obviously breaking through that wall of confidentiality that Jannik has built around himself. Revealing to us, however, on the other hand, a little secret that shed light, suddenly, on the success that has engulfed the blue bearer.

Sinner, that explains it all: he brought good luck

After pointing out how secretive he must be, in turn, in order to work with Sinner, Calabrò told Corsera readers that he was “responsible,” in a sense, for the blue tennis player’s exploit.

The credit goes to Jannik’s talent, of course, but it was the photographer who put an item in his hand a short time ago that may have contributed in some way to his climb to tennis Olympus. “When I heard that in Naples they had created a nativity figurine in his honor,” he said, “I took action to buy it. So I gave it to him in Monte Carlo, at the end of December, before he went to Melbourne. Jannik was happy, he said he hoped it would bring him luck. And I would say it went well….”

We had told you about the figurine in question here during the holiday season, when the South Tyrolean was not yet a Slam champion. When everything had yet to happen and when we all could only dream of it happening. And who knows, maybe this amulet from the South really had a hand in it…
