The tennis player from Arma di Taggia was on the upswing – he had won a Challenger just as the Italian national team was winning the Davis Cup – when, suddenly, an injury forced him to withdraw from the tournament he was playing in Maia, Portugal, where he was hoping to pocket useful ranking points. It would be, specifically, a calf problem. The same one he alluded to in the message he posted on social networks a few hours ago and in which he announced, precisely, that he would not be able to participate in the Australian Open.
Fognini started a few days ago his winter preparation for the upcoming season – he should return presumably, then, at clay court events – and on Thursday he was in the gym to stretch his legs a bit. With him in the cardio room was none other than Eros Ramazzotti, the Italian singer-songwriter who has always been passionate about tennis and sports.
