In a recent interview Maurizio Sarri, Lazio coach, “cannonballed” the Coppa Italia formula again. “It is a clandestine event tailor-made for the TV audience of the last rounds,” said the Tuscan coach, who is always very critical of overcrowded calendars.

The Biancocelesti, fresh from their 2-0 win over Celtic in the Champions League that earned them qualification to the knockout stage with one round to spare, did not play a memorable match against the Sardinians. A goal by Pedro after 8 minutes of play was enough to give the three points to Sarri’s men, who are now ninth but -4 from fourth place. Lazio has only cashed in one defeat at home, coincidentally against Genoa in August, when the Ligurians managed to make the breakthrough thanks to a goal by the oriundo Retegui (0-1). Plenty of turnover for Gilardino, who will give space in attack to Puscas and Ekuban. The prediction
Lazio, if they win, could meet Roma in the quarterfinals in a cup derby, if the Giallorossi simultaneously manage to get the better of Cremonese. For the biancocelesti it is in any case a particular moment and they did not fully convince even against Cagliari last Saturday, although they won. With Genoa, therefore, it could be a more balanced match than expected, with Sarri making several changes. Lazio favored in a match of less than four goals overall, a trend now repeated more and more often in the Capitolini’s recent outings at the Olimpico.
