Sinner away from temptation: turned down his advances

by Lea

Sinner, it takes more than that to distract the South Tyrolean champion from his goals: leading him into temptation is impossible.

It is rather widely believed that a champion worthy of the name should live on a hermitage, alone with his thoughts and sneakers, leading a practically monastic life. That he should not indulge in temptations of any kind, and that he should stay away, above all, from those that could potentially de-concentrate him.

It is because of this belief that Matteo Berrettini was given up for dead the exact moment he started appearing in some commercials and his relationship with Melissa Satta was discovered. As if an athlete who aspires to great achievements should give up, precisely, the pleasures of life. Jannik Sinner, unlike the Roman, has not been fooled. He has been happily engaged for years now to the beautiful Maria Braccini, but he has been smart and has always made sure that the paparazzi do not focus too much on his private life.

He does not lead the aforementioned monastic life, therefore, but he is more cunning and avoids doing in the open all the things that even a 20-year-old would be legitimate to do. Temptations, however, unlike his peers and other tennis players who populate the circuit, he has now learned to resist. He is great at that, and it is evidenced by the words of someone who now seems to know him quite well.

Sinner has not let himself be charmed: dutifully dedicated

It is not true, we said, that champions have to lead an all-home-and-field life, but it is true, instead, that looking after the line is a “mission” that is perfectly functional to the goals each of them sets out to achieve.

And at the table, indeed, Jannik Sinner has become very good at avoiding giving in to the allure of certain foods. This is confirmed by Davide Fiore, chef of the prestigious restaurant in Turin that hosted several of the competing Masters during the recent Finals, including precisely the South Tyrolean.

“Attentive to details,” is how he responded when asked how the world number 4 behaves at the table, “I would say maniacal. Jannik’s favorite dish? Rigatoncino with white rabbit ragout. It is usually served with olives, but Sinner always asked me for it without to avoid oil and fat. Never a drop of wine, only plain water. And zero temptations,” he says again, revealing how Sinner refused the chef’s “advances”-not even a taste of our desserts. Because to oil and sugar, fats and carbohydrates, he much prefers, it seems, the trophies and salad bowls up for grabs at tournaments. Not dumb, the boy.
