Borussia Dortmund-Werder Bremen, Bundesliga: lineups, predictions

by Michael

Borussia Dortmund-Werder Bremen is a match valid for the eighth day of the Bundesliga and is played on Friday at 8:30 pm: TV, formations, predictions.

After the first seven days of the championship there is a lot of traffic at the top of the Bundesliga standings. It is not the usual Bayern Munich that leads but Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen, one of the three teams still undefeated along with the Bavarians and Borussia Dortmund, the two big stars of last season.

The yellow-and-whites have 17 points just like Bayern and the leaders are only two lengths away. What makes the difference, for the moment, is one more draw. Edin Terzic’s men have collected two so far, but both came against opponents in reach such as Bochum and Heidenheim, who share the goal of maintaining their category. Since September, however, Borussia Dortmund has always won, at least as far as the league is concerned (in the Champions League, in the iron round, the balance is one defeat and one draw, against Psg and Milan, respectively). The last success, before the break, Emre Can and his teammates achieved against Union Berlin, overwhelmed 4-2 at Signal Iduna Park. A few days away from another potentially decisive challenge with Newcastle in the cup, Borussia will try to take the Bundesliga summit for a few hours in their match with Werder Bremen.

All eyes will obviously be on striker Fullkrug, who left the green-and-white club itself in the summer after four years after 91 appearances and 45 goals.

It’s not a good start to the season for Ole Werner’s men: in the last four days they have suffered as many as three defeats against potential direct contenders for salvation, in which they have cashed in a total of 11 goals. With 17 goals conceded, Werder’s is one of the most perforated defenses in the German top league.

The prediction

Last year, as soon as they returned to the top flight, Werder managed to conquer Signal Iduna Park in a league match after a full five years thanks to a stunning comeback in the final minutes. Since 2020, that remains the only green-and-white success: it is unlikely that Werner’s team, currently struggling mightily, can repeat a similar feat. In all likelihood, Borussia will take the three points, winning with at least two goals to spare.

The likely Borussia Dortmund-Werder Bremen lineups
