Bayern Munich-Freiburg, Bundesliga: odds, predictions

by Sabrina

Bayern Munich-Freiburg is a Bundesliga Week 7 match and is played on Sunday at 17:30: TV, line-ups, predictions.

The real added value of this Bayern Munich team is a French youngster, born in 2005, whom the Bavarian club picked up from the youth ranks of Rennes last year. His name is Mathys Tel and he is scoring some very important goals – there are already five this season – including the last one last Tuesday in the Champions League match against Copenhagen, which gave another three points to Thomas Tuchel’s team, still first alone in the group.

The 18-year-old of guadalupese origin is one of the few positive notes in a Bayern Munich side that is winning but still not entirely convincing: not even in the cup did the multiple German champions manage to express themselves at their usual level, risking to leave the away match in the Danish capital with just a point in their pocket against a far inferior opponent. A week ago Kane and his team-mates needed a comeback to avoid defeat – it would have been their second of the season – at home to Leipzig, who were reeled in thanks to goals from the English striker and Sané (2-2). The championship is still long, but Bayern, like a year ago, does not give the impression of being the usual steamroller we have come to know. Against Freiburg, in the last match before the break, a victory is needed to chase away the ghosts and stay in touch with the other title contenders.

Freiburg suffer with the big boys

Christian Streich’s men aren’t doing too badly, but as usual they are struggling with the big teams: so far only victories against opponents within their reach.

Purely for Freiburg it will be their third game in a week: Grifo and his team-mates were engaged on Thursday in the Europa League against West Ham, surrendering 2-1 to the Hammers: Paquetà and Aguerd made Sallai’s goal in the early second half in vain. The defeat, however, did not seem to complicate the continental path of the Black Forest city club, second in the group ahead of Olympiacos. In the Bundesliga, Freiburg are coming off two consecutive useful results: a draw in Frankfurt and a win against Augsburg.

The prediction

Freiburg will travel to Munich without a few key players, including Gregoritsch, and they don’t look capable of repeating last April’s coup, when they eliminated Bayern from the German Cup thanks to a victory at the Allianz Arena. We assume a round-robin success for the Bavarians, who could also keep their goals unbroken.
