Bayer Leverkusen-Cologne is a Bundesliga Week 7 match and is played on Sunday at 15:30: TV, line-ups, predictions.
Bayer Leverkusen’s magical momentum is continuing in the Europa League, where Xabi Alonso’s men picked up yet another win this week, probably the one to put their hopes on first place and qualification for the round of 16.
The Aspirins are undefeated in all competitions (Bundesliga, Europa League and German Cup) thanks to a proven game – and one that even seems to have evolved after the arrival of some targeted additions, including Xhaka, Grimaldo and striker Boniface – and can now dream of a leading season. The success in Norway against Molde (1-2) is the fourth in a row: especially impressive is the number of goals scored so far by Werkself, the second best attack in the Bundesliga after that of the surprising Stuttgart, who have however played one match more (20 goals in six matches). Bayer Leverkusen have never scored less than two, including cup matches. On the last day before the second break for national teams, Alonso’s team will try to regain the top spot, responding to Borussia Dortmund and Stuttgart, who by winning yesterday momentarily overtook the Rossoneri.
This weekend there is a match on paper that looks easy, against a disastrous Cologne, who after yesterday’s results find themselves last, alone, in the standings.
But woe betide underestimating an injured team like the Billy Goats, eager for redemption. Not least because it is a derby (Rhine derby, ed.) that is very close to both fans’ hearts. Cologne has barely picked up a point in six matches: Steffen Baumgart’s bench remains solid for the moment, but Kainz and his team-mates are called upon to react in order not to sink further. The red and whites have the least prolific attack in the tournament alongside Eintracht Frankfurt: only four goals scored.
The prediction
Cologne have always scored a full goal at the BayArena in the last two seasons, spiting their hated cousins. This time the gap seems wider than usual between the two teams, even considering the diametrically opposite moments of form. This is not the match in which the guests can come back to score, in short: we predict a wide success from Xabi Alonso’s men, ready to return to the top of the table.
