Burnley-Chelsea, Premier League: odds, predictions

by Lea

Burnley-Chelsea is a match on the eighth day of the Premier League and is played on Saturday at 4pm: TV, line-ups, predictions.

Burnley came unstuck in midweek, erasing the zero next to the win box and claiming their first success since setting foot in the Premier League.

The Clarets put an end to their fast-break by winning the salvation clash with Luton Town (1-2), another newly-promoted side, in the rematch that was originally due to take place on the second day of the season (postponed due to problems with the fitness of the Hatters’ stadium). Victory arrived five minutes from the final whistle, just after having conceded the equaliser: the decisive goal came from Dane Larsen. Vincent Kompany’s team’s performance, on the whole, was unconvincing: a win was crucial to move up a league table that was starting to become worrying, but the defence, for example, continued to be shaky. So far it has never remained inviolate, except in the League Cup, and that is not surprising given the unprejudiced attitude that the former Manchester City captain constantly demands from his men.

Chelsea, who had been winless since August, also returned to winning ways. Oxygen for Mauricio Pochettino the 0-2 in the derby with Fulham, felled by goals from Mudryk and Broja.

The Blues’ table, however, remains disappointing: after seven days of the championship, the Londoners are only eleventh, already a long way from fourth place, the minimum seasonal objective after a disastrous year, to say the least. There have actually been two successes in a row for Chelsea, who had also won by a narrow margin (1-0) over De Zerbi’s Brighton last week. Now they need to find continuity in the Premier League as well to avoid losing too much ground to their competitors. Pochettino, in addition to the disqualified Malo Gusto, has to do without James, Chilwell, Nkunku, Fofana and Chalobah. Caicedo and Mudryk will grit their teeth.

The prediction

Chelsea’s biggest problem so far has been goals, and against a danceable defence like Burnley’s, which concedes a lot of space, the Blues should score at least one goal. The Londoners have shown important signs in their last two outings and deserve confidence.

The Burnley-Chelsea likely line-up

  • BURNLEY (4-3-3): Trafford; Roberts, Al-Dakhil, Beyer, Taylor; Berge, Cullen, Brownhill; Koleosho, Foster, Amdouni.
  • CHELSEA (4-3-3): Sanchez; Cucurella, Disasi, Thiago Silva, Colwill; Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Gallagher; Palmer, Jackson, Sterling.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 1-2
