Inter v Sassuolo, Serie A: streaming, odds, predictions

by Mark

Inter-Sassuolo is a Week 6 match of Serie A and will be played on Wednesday at 20:45: odds, predictions, TV and streaming

After the first European interlude, Inter are back to being Inter in the league: a goal (and what a goal) from Dimarco was enough in Empoli to get their hands on their fifth win in as many matches. The Nerazzurri didn’t run rampant in Tuscany, as they had done against Fiorentina and AC Milan in the previous two matches, but what mattered was to get back to winning ways and of course stay on full points, the only team in Serie A to do so.

Only success so far for Simone Inzaghi’s men, stopped only by Real Sociedad in the Champions League. Perhaps it is still too early to talk about a breakaway, but it is still something very close: Inter already have a three-point lead over second-placed AC Milan and have distanced Juventus, who were inexplicably wrecked in Reggio Emilia against Sassuolo, the next opponent for Lautaro Martinez and his team-mates. The Nerazzurri have their sights set on 18 in their second close engagement of the season: with 14 goals scored and only one conceded, Inzaghi can boast the best attack as well as the least perforated defence in the league. Numbers that at the moment, thanks to the stuttering of the other big teams, give a sense of omnipotence. Beware, however, of the Emilians, who usually enjoy playing the role of party poopers. Juve knows something about this, and last Saturday they beat them by four goals, taking the first illustrious scalp of their tournament. It was a significant victory because it came after the ugly tumble in Frosinone, in which the neroverdi had let themselves be replaced (4-2), squandering a double advantage. Now Alessio Dionisi wants his first points on the road, where his team have yet to score, never conceding less than two goals.

Inter-Sassuolo: the latest line-up news

In the Empoli away match Inzaghi has lost Arnautovic: the former Bologna centre forward will be out for at least two months. Up front, therefore, the alternatives are further reduced, with Sanchez preparing to relieve one of Lautaro and Thuram. In defence, the recovered Acerbi will make up for de Vrij, but Pavard and Darmian will also take turns.

On the other side, Dionisi will not recover Consigli: in goal, at San Siro, it will be the deputy Cragno again. Viti may find space in the defensive quartet, while in the midfield the pair formed by Boloca and Matheus Henrique will be confirmed. Up front the former Pinamonti will be supported by captain Berardi, Bajrami and Laurienté.

The prediction

Inter’s goalscoring average has dropped considerably in the last two games, but it is probably a physiological drop considering the first close engagements. The sensation is that against a team not used to making barricades like Sassuolo, on the wings of enthusiasm because of the roaring success over Juventus, the Nerazzurri attack could go wild again. The Emiliani, however, are likely to make themselves dangerous on several occasions, in a challenge of at least three goals in total.

The likely line-up for Inter v Sassuolo

  • INTER (3-5-2): Sommer; Darmian, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Lautaro Martinez, Thuram.
  • SASSUOLO (4-2-3-1): Cragno; Toljan, Erlic, Viti, Vina; Boloca, Matheus Henrique; Berardi, Bajrami, Laurienté; Pinamonti.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 2-1
