Verona v Atalanta, Serie A: streaming, odds, predictions

by Mark

Verona-Atalanta is a Week 6 match of Serie A and will be played on Wednesday at 18:30: odds, predictions, TV and streaming.

Atalanta’s short-term objective is to find a minimum of continuity after a start to the season characterised by too many ups and downs. In the meantime, La Dea have racked up two victories in a row for the first time, between the Europa League and the championship: last Thursday they debuted on the continental stage with a comfortable victory over the Polish side Rakow (2-0); then they brilliantly overcame the first double commitment of the season, beating Cagliari with the same result despite changing a few players.

Two victories that allowed Gian Piero Gasperini to archive the defeat against Fiorentina (3-2), the second consecutive away defeat after the one suffered in August against the newly promoted Frosinone. Away from home, in fact, Atalanta have so far appeared more vulnerable: the only victory, for now, remains the one against Sassuolo on the first day of Serie A. The number of goals scored and conceded also stands out, as the Dea have always kept their goals unbeaten in their Gewiss Stadium, and have only conceded the only goals away from their home crowd. Gasperini expects a more consistent performance, but at the same time he is rediscovering important players such as Lookman, back to the levels of the first part of last season, and he is also discovering the qualities of the new ones. One above all is former Milan player De Ketelaere, who was also among the best on the pitch against Cagliari.

The Verona exam, in short, comes at just the right time. The Scaligeri have returned to the ranks after a storming start (two victories against Empoli and Roma), picking up just one point in three matches. Last Saturday’s performance at the San Siro against AC Milan (1-0) was decent, but from an attacking point of view the Gialloblù have dropped: barely a goal in the last 270 minutes.

Verona-Atalanta: the latest line-up news

The Gialloblù coach Baroni will change something compared to the match against AC Milan. The most important change will concern the attack, where Bonazzoli will start from the 1′. Ngonge and one of Folorunsho or Saponara will act in support of the former Salernitana striker. In the middle Hongla and Duda, while on the left Lazovic should win the duel with Terracciano. The other ballot is in defence, where Coppola and Dawidowicz are competing for a shirt.

There are many doubts for Gasperini, who is likely to continue with the rotation. Pasalic and Muriel are candidates from the bench, who will challenge Koopmeiners and De Ketelaere. The only one sure of a place up front is Lookman. In defence, Djimsiti could give Scalvini a break.

The prediction

Atalanta have won four of their last five meetings with Verona, who in turn have not beaten Dea at the ‘Bentegodi’ since 2016. So far the Bergamaschi have only got the better of Sassuolo on the road, but in the last two outings they have appeared to be on the rise, collecting two clean sheets. The Scaligeri are undefeated at home (a win against Roma and a draw against Bologna) and after their good performance at the San Siro they could make life difficult for the Nerazzurri as well, who can be trusted after their successes against Rakow and Cagliari. Both are likely to score on at least one occasion.
